Hi Susann,

The Hilti Volume Calculator app estimates the epoxy or mortar needed per borehole by combining theoretical calculations with practical, field-tested adjustments. It starts by calculating the borehole volume using the diameter of a new drill bit, adds a small overflow for reliability, and subtracts the volume taken up by the anchor or rebar. For deep or narrow holes, or tight fits, the app increases the calculated volume by 20% to account for real-world conditions like vibrations or installation challenges. For hollow masonry, the volume is fixed by sleeve size.

The app also helps estimate how many cartridges or foil packs you’ll need, factoring in packaging and mixer losses, so you get a realistic idea of usable material. This approach ensures enough mortar for secure installation, helps avoid waste, and supports efficient project planning.

The final formula used is: Mortar Volume per Borehole = Theoretical Borehole Volume + Mortar Ring Volume – Element Volume
(For deep/narrow boreholes or tight fits, the result is increased by 20%.)
