Firestop solution for energy and industry projects

International energy and industry projects represent significant fire hazards, often complicated by harsh environments and remote locations. The risk of fire is present during all stages and operations of the petroleum industry, whether during exploration and production both in onshore and offshore installations or during refining/processing or transportation, storage. The safety standards demanded by these projects make them some of the most uncompromising, exacting engineering works of all. For these critical specifications, Hilti multi-cable transit (MCT) systems  deliver you a high-performance but practical solution for creating fire-, water- and gas-resistant protective seals around cables and pipes.

WHAT IS A CABLE TRANSIT SYSTEM?

Cable transit systems are modular, adaptable sealing and passive fire protection solutions. They are used to create a more resistant seal against gas, smoke and water and are ATEX-approved against blasts around cables/pipes as they pass through openings in walls, floors, bulkheads or decks.

The system consists of standardized rubber blocks, called cable modules (various sizes and types available), through which services pass. Any combination of these modules can be arranged within a transit frame – the rigid border mounted to the wall or floor. The final step is to add a wedge module to the top of the transit frame. Using a socket wrench, this wedge is expanded to secure the cable modules in place using compressive force. Future changes are as simple as loosening the wedge and adjusting the cable modules as needed. If you need specialized features, such as electromagnetic shielding or ATEX-approved blast resistance, Hilti can provide suitable cable modules on request.

ADAPTABLE, EASY-TO-INSPECT FIRESTOP SYSTEMS

Tight margins, strict schedules and labor shortages make driving productivity a top priority for every jobsite, no matter how complex or specialized. We have developed multi-cable transit systems to be faster, more user-friendly and cost-effective than any firestop solution you have used before.

Faster installation

A clean and methodical process based on pre-formed interlinked rubber blocks within a modular system. By eliminating fiddly steps and clean-up afterwards, you can keep installation progress predictable and on track.

Singel module with grey adapter

Simplified inspection

Color-coded adapters show at a glance that the right type of cable module has been installed. This helps to prevent installation errors, while making visual inspection quicker and easier.

We support you by not only delivering workable firestop, but at virtually every project phase before and after. Our engineering advisory services, PROFIS software and CAD/BIM library are available to you and your team to keep specification, installation and documentation running smoothly.

Simply put, PROFIS Cable Transit software is designed to save Engineers time. Once you specify basic details – like the number, size and type of cables you are dealing with – the software displays suitable options that can generate parts lists, technical documentation including DXF drawings  with frame graphics and filling plan for each transit. It also includes a downloadable 3D CAD drawings library which can be integrated into your AVEVA software (E3D or PDMS).

For high-security communications or explosive environments

EMC cable modules with electromagnetic shielding

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is the ability of electronic equipment to operate correctly in an electromagnetic environment without disturbance from or emission of unwanted electrical noise. The electromagnetic waves are directed towards the ground via a metallic frame, avoiding electromagnetic disturbances from sources like radio and TV waves, electric circuits and electric faults.

Hilti EMC modules shield against electromagnetic waves – both airborne or via cables. Contact tips and tapes made from 0.2 and 0.1 mm thick electrolytic copper form a conductive connection between the cable shield and the zinc plated/stainless steel frame to allow conductivity from cable modules to earth.

CFS-T transit frame ATEX-tested

ATEX refers to two European Directives describing safety equipment and best practices in potentially explosive atmospheres. The goal of ATEX is to minimize the risks when working in such environments. You’ll find explosive environments in virtually every industrial or production facility – even the airborne flour in a bakery is covered by the directives.

The CFS-T transit frames have been tested according to ATEX standards. This makes cable transit frames a realistic option in potentially explosive atmospheres – such as the petrochemical and chemical industries – where straightforward installation, inspection and retrofitting are crucial.
